Fear is a powerful emotion that can paralyze our decisions, steal our peace, and hinder our spiritual growth. Whether we are facing major life changes, public speaking, physical danger, or spiritual warfare, the temptation to shrink back is real.
But scripture repeatedly commands us to "be strong and courageous." This command is not based on our own strength, but on the promise of God's constant presence and protection. We can be brave because the Almighty stands beside us.
Meditate on these scriptures to silence your fears and find the boldness to take steps of faith.
"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." Timidity is not from God. His Spirit fills us with power, love, and a disciplined mind that resists fear.
"The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?" When we view God as our ultimate protector and light, our earthly fears lose their power.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." We can face opposition with boldness because God is our constant companion.
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." This verse is a direct promise of physical and spiritual support from God during trials.
"What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" This rhetorical question establishes that God's favor and support outweigh any earthly opposition or threat.
Faith shifts our attention from the threat to God's absolute sovereignty and love. Trusting His promises lowers our anxiety and gives us the courage to act.
Joshua 1:9 is powerful: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
Ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit, to give you the words to speak, and to remove the fear of man's opinion, replacing it with a desire to honor Him.
